Our community-based initiative seeks to collect digital records that capture personal experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite you to share your story or that of your community through content such as photographs, audio/visual recordings, and interviews. R02 Chicago History at Home Stories are a way of staying connected and engaged with one another. During this time of social isolation, our mission to share Chicago stories is more important than ever. From digital storytelling and educational resources to VR experiences—we are sharing new ways to engage with the city’s history every day, even from your couch. R03 Chicago History at Home | Families We know that especially now, it is more vital than ever to stay connected with one another and with our communities. Our education team has designed daily activities that promote learning of Chicago history, making personal connections with the city, encouraging family conversation, and fostering creativity. R04 Museum closure Due to COVID-19, we are closed as of Saturday, March 21, as per Governor J. B. Pritzker’s order to shelter in place and will remain closed through Sunday, May 31. All programs, tours, and workshops are canceled. R05 We Are Chicago In these uncertain times, sharing our stories and supporting each other is more important than ever. We are helping our community through the COVID-19 crisis by donating supplies, providing daily curated digital content and educational resources, and are continuing to seek opportunities to assist where we can. Even with our doors closed, it takes many hands to offer these services and continue to fulfill the Chicago History Museum’s mission: to serve as a hub of scholarship and learning, inspiration, and civic engagement. In March 1937, Dr. Bernard Fantus opened a blood preservation laboratory at Cook County Hospital, and in 1939, Baxter Laboratories in the north suburbs invented the “Transfuso-Vac,” a device that allowed blood to be stored for up to 21 days.
